There are many ways you can help the Alliston & District Humane Society and the animals in your community. You could volunteer some time at the shelter, offer some space in your home for a foster animal, or donate in a variety of ways.
Membership has many benefits. All membership fees are tax deductible and go towards the needs of the animals in our care. Theses fees also provide the shelter with a base of supporters that help us with our fundraising and awareness activities. While you cannot purchase a membership on-line due to signature requirements, you can print the application and mail it. You could become a member and help us help the animals for as little as $0.06 per day!!
As a registered charity with Revenue Canada, all donations over $10 are tax deductible. Donations go towards upkeep of our shelter and the animals in our care - whether it is for food, medical care due to injury or illness, or for spay and neuter to increase the animal's chance for adoption. Our annual expenses for animal care exceed $75,000. Small or large, every donation makes a difference in an animal's life.
You can be a partner in animal welfare all year long by joining our monthly giving program today! Monthly donations help us to maintain our adoption programs and find animals forever homes. It saves you time and keeps administrative costs low, making it the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to help animals in our area. Monthly giving provides dependable funding which gives the humane society a greater ability to commit to long-term projects that will help the animals in our community for many years to come. It’s that simple to be a partner in animal welfare.
For as little as $5 per month, you can help to provide accommodations, food and medical care to a homeless animal. To show our appreciation, your name will be prominently displayed on either an adoption cage or on our donor board. A receipt will be issued to you for income tax purposes
Donate A Car Canada accepts vehicle donations for Alliston & District Humane Society. We provide free towing in many areas across Canada, or you can drop off your vehicle to maximize your donation. When you donate your RV, boat, motorcycle or other vehicle to Alliston & District Humane Society through Donate A Car Canada, it will either be recycled or sold at auction depending on its condition, age and location. Donate A Car Canada will look after all the details to make it easy for your Charity to benefit. We provide the food, YOU provide the love. A foster home provides one of our animals with a temporary home where it can feel like a valued family member. Foster homes not only spare animals from the stress of confinement in a cage in our shelter, but also provides them with a loving home environment and adequate socialization, which makes them more adoptable. Most of our rescued animals stay in foster homes until adoption. Fostering can be the most rewarding and fulfilling experience for you! By fostering, you are helping to save the life of an unwanted animal. Fostering also gives you and/or your own pets the benefit of pet companionship without the worries of permanent ownership! There are also times when short-term medication foster homes are needed.
We welcome and encourage individuals and organizations to run community events on our behalf. We have been very fortunate to have so many people support the work that we do and the programs that we offer by fundraising on our behalf. Third party events help us build relationships in the community and raise public awareness with new people we could not reach without you. This helps bring new donors, adopters and volunteers to the Humane Society, making the effect of your event that much wider!
As a third party event organizer, we encourage you to participate in an activity that you, your friends and your family will enjoy and, at the same time, support the work of the Humane Society. It doesn’t matter whether your event is large or small, there are infinite possibilities that support our mission.
We are always in need of volunteers, please let us know what you are interested in.
Please bring your liquor/beer bottles and cans to the Shelter to help support the animals.
Please drop off your used clothing, foot wear and linens to our Kidney Foundation of Canada donation box at the entrance to the shelter. This helps support the animals.
The Canada Revenue Agency does not apply capital gains tax on donations of publicly traded securities. Capitals gains are the increase in the value of your securities over the price you paid at purchase.
When you sell your shares for cash, you’re responsible for the tax due on the gain, even if you plan to donate the proceeds from the sale. If you pay the tax out of those proceeds, there’s less money left to donate. Your charity receives a smaller donation and you have a smaller donation to claim for your charitable tax credit at the end of the year.
But when you donate your securities directly through CanadaHelps, those capital gains aren’t subject to tax. This means your charity receives a larger gift, and you’ll benefit from a tax receipt for the full value of your eligible securities or mutual funds.
