VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

We are in need of help with our Lost & Found phone line. This is a free service we offer to help reunite lost and found pets with their owners. We would like to have several people available and trained so we could rotate the responsibility.

Job description:

The volunteer will have the Master Book containing all of the Lost & Found entries.

S/he phones into our central phone line to get the messages for Lost & Found at least twice a day

S/he phones each person to record as many details as possible about the animal and precise location where lost/found

S/he liaisons with Canine Control officers concerning lost and found dogs

S/he tries to match up “lost” listings with “found” listings

S/he makes follow-up phone calls to update status of lost/found animal

S/he routinely (weekly) reports updated listings for advertising purposes

The qualified candidate should possess the following:

• Desire to help

• A long distance phone plan. We get calls from many locations.
• Time to take messages from our central phone line on a daily basis
• Time to return calls and obtain further information from callers
• Neat and legible handwriting
• Organizational skills
• Ability to accurately record details of lost or found animal
• Ability to read maps (to ascertain location of lost/found animal)
• Ability to deal with people who are often distraught
• Ability to be diplomatic and firm regarding policy
• Be familiar with ADHS territory and policies
• Some familiarity with breeds of dogs and cats is very helpful

Training will be provided. For continuity purposes, we would ideally like to have 3-4 volunteers to monitor the Lost & Found for 1-2 months at a time, rotating the duty amongst them.
