The ADHS is a federally registered charity. It receives no government funding. All board members, cruelty agents and foster homes are unpaid volunteers. All funds raised cover the current services provided as well as future programs.
Since 1988 it has been the ultimate goal of the ADHS to acquire land on which to build an animal shelter. This facility would provide a temporary home for abused, stray or abandoned companion animals, as well as orphaned or injured wildlife. The shelter would furnish the necessary care in order to prepare these animals for adoption or release, in the case of wildlife.
The ADHS strives for a 100% adoption rate, with a NO KILL policy for all animals deemed adoptable. Those animals deemed 'unadoptable' by a veterinarian due to illness, severe injuries or of unsuitable or dangerous temperament are humanely euthanised.
In order to establish a permanent shelter, The ADHS will need the continued support of the community. Additional funding is still needed, as well as funding to address our yearly operating expenses.
This year we are planning numerous fundraising events.
Other events include:
Walk-A-Dog-A-Thon*
'With Loving Hearts' Craft Show **
Pet Pictures with Santa
* Walk-A-Dog-A-Thon will be on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Earl Rowe Provincial Park. Registration is at 10 AM
* * The With Loving Hearts Craft Show will be held on November 8, 2008 at the Tottenham Community Centre. Free Parking. Applications are now being accepted for crafters.
We would like to thank the community for its past and present support. Through donations and participation at our Thanks to the community support in the past with donations and participation at our various fundraisers we purchased a parcel of land on June 12, 2002. We are now actively fundraising for the building fund. This endeavour will require a great deal of commitment on the part of all volunteers
Many of our volunteers have dedicated numerous years of service and are willing to share their experience and knowledge with new volunteers. If you wish to volunteer, we have many projects that may fit into your time schedule. We need help collecting Zehrs tapes, staffing events, fostering pets and wildlife, donation tins, manning phones for Lost and Found and making items for our Craft Sale.
If anyone has any giant dog crates they do not need and would like to donate to the Alliston & District Humane Society for foster dogs please call (705) 435-2851.
If you are able to assist your community Humane Society, please give us a call at 705-458-9038. We would be pleased to return your call.
