The Alliston & District Humane Society covers the townships of New Tecumseth, Mulmur, and Adjala-Tosorontio as well as the Villages of Cookstown, Rosemont and Hockley and the Town of Schomberg.

The ADHS is an affiliate of the Ontario Society for The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA). An affiliate has its own board of directors and is responsible for its own finances and policies. The ADHS adheres to all OSPCA bylaws as they pertain to an affiliated society. Our Animal Protections Services agents are trained and governed by OSPCA. Any monies raised in our area stay in our area.

The ADHS has been in operation since 1988 and is comprised entirely of volunteers. These volunteers have donated thousands of hours of time, use of their homes and vehicles (and any damages sustained), gas, food, litter, long distance calls, expertise handling animals and whatever else was required.

The ADHS attempts to provide shelter for stray and unwanted animals with priority given to abused and neglected animals. The animals in our care are housed in a network of volunteer foster homes, assisted by our Foster Home Co-ordinator. The ADHS provides a lost and found reporting service, humane education, and animal protection and cruelty investigation services. Dedicated volunteers make all of these services possible. The ADHS strives for a 100% adoption rate, with a NO KILL policy for all animals deemed adoptable. Those animals deemed 'unadoptable' by a veterinarian due to illness, severe injuries or of unsuitable or dangerous temperament are humanely euthanized.

On June 12, 2002, the ADHS purchased 49.75 acres of land with plans to build a shelter as soon as finances and resources allowed. We purchased the land with funds raised from fundraising events and donations. It is located on the 4th Concession at the 5th Sideroad of Adjala-Tosorontio. We found this land after a long search, as the criteria required to build a shelter is quite involved.

We began construction of our long awaited animal shelter in the spring of 2010.

We DO NOT do canine control as each municipality has a paid employee for this purpose.

Residents of Clearview and Essa townships who wish to claim their dog from the must call 705-458-1510 and make an appointment to do so.
